Pure Stock Rules 

GENERAL RULES:

 

The age requirement for pure stocks is 15 years of age and up.  All minors must have a notarized release form signed by a legal guardian/parent.  Pure stock shall be considered the most economical of classes.  If a driver is registered in any other class, he/she will not be eligible.  If he/she still chooses to race, there will be no points awarded to driver.  If a registered driver of another class is caught racing in the pure stocks under someone else’s name, that car will lose all points for that night.

 

BODY/FRAME:

 

Weight limit is 3400lbs, including driver and passenger.  Cars must be street type.  American made passenger cars only.  Metric frame, (monte carlo, thunderbird) cars are allowed.  Nova’s, s-10 and ford ranger pick-ups are allowed.  Only metric framed station wagons are permitted with enclosed rear compartment.  No other makes or models will be accepted.  No camaro, Cadillac, town cars, mustang or corvette.  No commercial vehicles, convertibles or sports cars.  Altering original frame wheelbase is not allowed.  Minimum wheel base is 108” per OEM specifications for stock factory production.  Allowance to 107.5 for caster adjustment will be allowed at the technical inspection pad.

 

Fenders may be cut for tire clearance.  Cutting width not to exceed 7” of the tire circumference.

 

Body sheet metal must be in place at the beginning of each race event and kept in an acceptable appearance through out the season.

 

Doors must be welded or bolted shut.

 

All glass, fiberglass, plastic and trim must be completely removed from the car.

 

Driver and passenger door may be gutted for roll cage installation, but no other gutting of the car is allowed.  This includes hood, trunk and roof as well.

 

Hood and trunk must be secured with hood pins at all times.  No holes allowed in hood except for hood pin holes. 

 

All openings in the car that could propose a safety hazard to the driver must be sealed shut at all times.

 

Stock OEM bumpers are required for the same make of the car.  Bumper loops are also required in front and rear to protect the radiator and fuel cell.  The tubing will not exceed  0.95 x 1 ½ OD with a maximum height of 6” tall and no wider than the frame.

 

ROLL CAGE:

 

Roll bars must be constructed of 1.5” x 0.95” steel tubing minimum.  Main roll bar and halo must be a minimum of 1” higher than the drivers helmet.  Minimum of three (3) door bars on the driver side and a minimum of two(2) door bars on the passenger side.  FRONT LOOP IS ALLOWED TO PROTECT RADIATOR AND FRONT FRAME ARMS.  FRONT CORE SUPPORT MAY BE REMOVED AND CAN NOT BE EXTENDED PAST HOOD.  Maximum size is 1.5” O.D., .095” tubing.  All roll cage welds must be complete and pass safety inspection by tech officials.  Floor pan may be cut for cage and sub-frame connectors, but must be replaced by a minimum of 20 gauge steel.  X-bracing under the driver (frame-to-frame) is allowed.

 

NERF BARS:

 

A single nerf bar is allowed on each side of the car.  Maximum size is 1.5"X 0.95".  May be attached main cage only at the front and rear section of the nerf bar.  This means only (2) attachment points are allowed.  No open tubing allowed.  Tubing must be capped or rounded with no sharp edges.  No nerf bars are allowed outside the rear outside quarter panel area.  Nerf bars may not extend outside of tires.

 

ENGINE:

 

Compression rule is 160 PSI cranking compression.

 

Straight or V-6 cylinder within 11 cubic inches of factory or V-8 engine with maximum 361 cubic inch engine must remain in stock location.  Stock motor mounts are required.  May use OEM stock steel replacement motor mounts, which must bolt into stock location, flat top or dish pistons only, must be cast, no forged pistons.  Stock OEM block only.  Stock OEM crank and rods for block used and stock OEM stroke.

 

Cylinder heads must be stock for year, make and model.  (305 on 305, 350 on 350, etc.)  No closed or partially closed chambered heads, maximum 1.94 intake valves and 1.50 exhaust valve.  Heads may be flat milled for surfacing reasons only.  No angle milling.  Studs may be pinned. Screw in studs will also be permitted. Casting numbers must remain in heads.  No interior deburring or grinding allowed.  Ford is allowed a 1.6 exhaust valve.

 

Intake manifolds must be stock on that year, make and model.  No bowtie or marine.  No deburring or grinding allowed.  Blocking or heat risers and EGR holes allowed.  No porting or polishing of any kind.  No brezenkis.

 

CARBURETOR:

 

Carburetor must be OEM style with no modifications permitted.  Must be original size and type to year, make and model.  NO adapters or spacers.  Removal of choke flap is the only modification allowed.  Rochester 2 barrel adaptor 1 inch maximum of thickness.  No adapter allowed on 2 barrel GM cast iron intake.  No carburetor spacers.  Holley carburetor P# 0-7448 model 2300 or holley rebuilt # 657448 will be only holley carb allowed (if using this specific part number a 200lb weight break will be allowed).  No other rebuilder will be legal.  No alterations are permitted, except choke flap can be removed.  Must use NON- adjustable carb adapter only.  Gas only,  No additives.

 

AIR CLEANER:

 

Most brands, style or size air cleaner are allowed.  NO ram air of forced air induction will be allowed.  Conventional style allowed top and base.

 

After market valve cover with breather tube may be used.

 

CAMSHAFT:

 

Camshaft and lifters must be hydraulic with a maximum of 450 lift.  Tech clarifications:  in order to maintain a 450 lift on your camshaft, you must not exceed a camshaft lobe of 280 degrees with 1.6 rocker arms, which will measure a 450 lift.  Also, a 450 lift cam with 1.6 rocker arms measure a 480 lift at the valve, which will be deemed illegal.  Know what your camshaft and rocker arm combination produces in order not to exceed a 450 lift measured at the valve.  The engine must hold 15” vacuum at 1000 RPM.  No 1.6 rockers.  Stock size lifters only.  Stock cranks only.  Stoke stroke.  No lighting.  OEM only.

 

EXHAUST:

 

Exhaust manifolds must be stock cast iron only.  No corvette style, (2.5 port exhaust) stock manifolds.  No porting, polishing, acid treatment or coatings.  Exhaust pipes must extend past drivers compartment.

 

WATER PUMP:

 

Cast iron water pump is required.  Pulleys may be aluminum after market.  Fan must be steel and attached to water pump.  Fan spacers may be used.  An additional electric cooling fan may be used to assist cooling under yellow flag periods, but all stock fan, pulley and belt components must remain installed.

 

IGNITION:

 

Must remain and be completely stock OEM replacement parts only.  Stock HEI ignition is allowed.  No MSD modules, no MSD systems or any after market or GM ignition boxes allowed.

 

FUEL PUMP:

 

Must be stock OEM style fuel pump.  Carter and holley manual style are allowed.  Push rod activated lever style.

 

FUEL TANK:

 

Must be securely mounted in trunk of car between frame rails. All cars must have a fuel cell with maximum capacity of 22 gallons. All fuel cells must have a roll-over valve. No plastic boat tanks.

 

BRAKES:

 

Brake system must remain stock OEM to make and model.  No after market components of any kind.  Stock pedal and stock OEM master cylinders required in OEM location with no extension on the push rod or the pedal assembly.  Car must have a minimum of 3 wheel brakes in working order at all times.  No proportioning valves. Rear disc brakes will be allowed for safety reasons.

 

TRANSMISSION:

 

OEM stock transmission.  All torque converters must be 12 “ with no modifications.  All forward gears must be in working order on all transmissions with a neutral and working reverse.  No over-drive transmissions.  All standard transmissions must be OEM stock with all forward gears and reverse in working order, and minimum 10.5” clutch, pressure plate, and full size stock flywheel.  Standard transmissions must have a ¼” steel plate covering the bell housing 180 degrees over the sides and top of clutch assembly or a blow proof bell-housing.  No aluminum or light weight flywheels, no 4,5 or 6 speed standard transmissions, no overdrives.  Must be self starting.  Transmission coolers okay, but must be out of drivers compartment or shielded to protect the driver.

 

DRIVESHAFT: 

 

All drive shafts must be steel and painted white.  Drive shaft must have safety loop within 6” of the front U-joint.  No chain loops allowed.

 

REAR END:

 

Must be stock OEM for make, and year of car.  Any gear ratio is allowed as long as the housing doesn’t have to be altered.  Rear end must be locked.  Mini spools are ok.  No limited slip or posi-traction.

 

STEERING:

 

Must be stock OEM steering for year, make and model.  May use after market steering shaft and quick release steering wheel disconnect.  NO quick-steer of any type.

 

SUSPENSION:

 

Suspension parts must remain stock for year, make and model.  No modification to any suspension component.  No adjustable or non-adjustable spring spacers.  No racing shocks.  Bushings may be replaced with stock style OEM type only.  No bilstein, afco, pro, and qal type racing shocks.  Racing springs allowed (steel only).  Leaf springs may use lowering blocks.

 

TIRES:

 

60 series dot tires only.  Must be able to have road hazard.  No grooving, siping or softening.  No recaps.

 

WHEELS:

 

Any 8” steel wheel permitted.  Wheel minimum weight is 22lbs.  NO light weight wheels permitted.  5/8 studs and 1” lug nuts are recommended.  NO beadlocks, wheel spacers, adaptors or tire screws are allowed. 

 

DRIVER/PASSENGER RESTRAINT:

 

Racing seats with rib supports are required.  Seats must be securely mounted to chassis, NOT FLOOR PAN, with a minimum of 4, 3/8” bolts.  5 point safety harnesses are required, S.F.I. tag must be legible and no more than 5 years old.  Straps must NOT be frayed in any way.  Connectors must lock and unlock freely.  Must be bolted to the roll cage and frame with a minimum bolt size of 1/2” bolts.  A window net is required on both sides of car while carrying a passenger.  No sprint car nets.  All helmets must be full-face, current snell 90 or newer sticker in it.  Snell sa90 and sa00 legal.  All drivers and passengers are required to wear a driving suit.  No nomex coveralls will be allowed.  Neck brace is MANDATORY for all drivers and passengers.  Driving gloves and driving shoes are recommended.

 

SCORING:

 

Numbers must be 24” high and 4” wide on both sides of car and 28” tall on the roof and positioned so it can be read from the passenger side.  Cars must be painted and numbered neatly and to be seen easily by the scorekeepers.  The number on the roof is the most important number.  Reflective vinyl is not recommended for roof application due to the poor read ability.  All numbers must be of different color than background.  When positioning the number on the roof, it should be readable from the passenger door.

 

PROTEST:

 

Protest must be made before a feature in writing by driver ONLY!!!!!  See tech official.  

$75 valve cover removal and inspection or $150 head removal and inspection.  $100 to the driver and $50 to the points fund.  Rules are subjected to change at any time. Any rule infraction to be in question will be at tracks discretion.

Hobby Stock Rules:

  

Body:

 

Cars must be a stock street type.  American made passenger cars only.  Metric frame, ( Monte Carlo , Thunderbird) cars are allowed.  Only metric framed station wagons are permitted with enclosed rear compartment, no other makes or models will be accepted.  No Camaro, Cadillac, Town Cars, Mustang or Corvette.  No commercial vehicles, convertibles or sports cars.  Minimum wheel base is 108” per OEM specifications for stock factory production.  Allowance to 107.5” for caster adjustment will be allowed at the technical inspection pad.  Chevy S-10, Ford Ranger, Dodge Dakota are also allowed.

 

Weight:

 

Minimum weight is 3200 pounds with driver after race.

 

Carburetor:

 

Rochester Quadrajet, Edelbrock Quadrajet or Holley #4412 two barrel is allowed.  Number must be legible on air horn.  Choke horn must be attached.  Circle track floats may be used.  No machine work on carburetor.  Holley carburetors may be mounted on cast iron 4 barrel intake with an adaptor only.  No spacers are allowed.  No other alterations are allowed.  Only one carburetor allowed on engine.  No other carburetors are allowed.  No spacer or adapter allowed.  No injectors or pressure systems allowed.  Ford: Motorcraft tow or four barrel, Holley #4412, or #0-80583-1 two barrels.  Mopar: Carter of AFB two or four barrel, Holley #4412, or #0-80583-1 two barrels.  Carburetor spacer/adapter is allowed, but must not exceed 1-1/4” total thickness including gaskets.

 

Cylinder Heads:

 

OEM cylinder heads only with a minimum 68cc chamber size.  No closed chamber heads except 305 heads on 305 engine only.  No partially closed chamber heads.  No 461 or 462 heads.  Open chamber heads only.  No vortec heads.  Race cars using GM engines must run 350 heads on 350 engines, and 305 heads on 305 engines.  No aluminum heads.  No special order heads or factory special order heads.  Any open chamber cast iron steel OEM factory production straight plug head is allowed that meets the described requirements.  All GM heads are limited to 1.94” intake valves and 1.50” exhaust valves.  Heads may be flat milled for surfacing reasons only, no angle milling allowed.

Studs may be pinned or screwed in.  Push rod guide plates are allowedAny single valve spring with dampener is legal.  No double or triple springs allowed.

No porting, polishing, port matching or coatings of any type allowed.  No aluminum or titanium components are allowed.

Any work done in the bowl area must be done with a 360 degree cut, with the valve guide as the center point.

Full roller rocker arms and roller tip rocker arms are not allowed.  Poly-locks are allowed.  Stud girdles are not allowed.

 

Engine:

 

May be in stock location or #1 spark plug can be even with ball-joint or forward.  #1 spark plug may not extend behind upper ball joint on any car.

Cast iron OEM blocks only.  After-market steel stock type engine mounts are allowed.  No machining in lifter valley (except for oil flow drain openings) or in lifter bores.

Engine components must be stock, or stock appearing.  No Chevrolet bowtie, Ford SVO or Mopar performance blocks.  Stock stroke must be maintained within .002”  No performance parts.  After-market rod bolts may be used.  Only cast OEM replacement style pistons with four (4) equal valve relief are allowed.  No floating wrist pins, must be press fit.  Flat top pistons or dish pistons only, no domed pistons.  No forged pistons, cast only.  No total seal type rings are allowed.  Maximum cubic inch displacement allowed is 364 c.i.d.  Boring to a maximum of .060” over stock OEM bore is allowed.

Fords: 289, 302, or 351 blocks only with flat top pistons.  Any OEM Ford head is allowed.  No after-market or Boss heads allowed.  Maximum valve size is 1.94” intake and 1.60” exhaust.

Only 273, 318, 340 and 360 blocks can be used for Mopar.  No big blocks.  OEM only.  No Hemis. 

Again: only, Ford, Chevy or Mopar engines are allowed.

Mopar= Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge. 370 cubic inch maximum.

Ford= Ford and Mercury. 360 cubic inch maximum.

Chevy= Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile as long as they are Chevrolet engines.  364 cubic inch maximum.

Stock style rockers arms only, no full rollers, and no roller tips.  No stud girdles.

A stock oil pan or a claimer style pan is allowed.  Oiling must be complete wet sump.  No dry sump systems allowed.

After-market harmonic balancer is allowed.

Must have 1” sight plug in oil pan between the second and third pan bolt on the drivers side.

Compression rule is 180 lbs. per cylinder with 5 bumps of guage.

 

Camshafts:

 

Camshaft and lifters must be hydraulic with a maximum of 450 lift.  Measured at the valve.  Tech Clarification:  In order to maintain a 450 lift on your camshaft, you must not exceed a camshaft lobe of 280 degrees with 1.6 rocker arms, which will measure a 450 lift.  Also, a 450 lift cam with 1.5 rockers arms will measure a 450 lift.  Be advised that a 450 lift cam with 1.6 rocker arms will measure 480 lift at the valve, which will be deemed illegal.  Know what your camshaft and rocker arm combination produces in order to not exceed a 450 lift measured at the valve.

 

Intake:

 

Intake must be cast iron.  No high-rise intakes, no marine intakes and no aluminum intakes.  No porting, polishing, port matching, acid porting, acid treatments or coatings of any kind.

Most brand, style or size air cleaner are allowed.  NO type of RAM air or forced air induction will be allowed.  Any valve cover combination allowed.

 

Water Pump:

 

Cast iron water pump is required.  Pulleys may be aluminum after-market.  Fan must be steel and attached to water pump.  Fan spacers may be used.  An additional electric cooling fan may be used to assist cooling under yellow flag conditions, but all stock fan, pulley and belt components must remain installed.

 

Ignition:

 

Ignition must remain under stock OEM cap.  Stock HEI ignition is allowed.  No MSD systems or any after-market or GM ignition boxes allowed.  No external coils.

 

Exhaust:

 

Under chassis headers 1 5/8 tube and 3” collector allowed.  No 180 degree headers.  No cross over headers.  Stock cast iron exhaust manifolds allowed.  All exhaust pipes must extend past driver seat or exit to outside of car.

 

Radiator:

 

Only one radiator may be used.  Must be in stock location.  No cutting of hood for clearance.  Aluminum radiator is allowed.  Racing radiator cap is allowed.

 

Fuel System:

 

Gasoline ONLY.  Racing fuel allowed.  NO additives allowed.  NO alcohol.

Fuel pump must be stock OEM style.  Carter and Holley manual styles are allowed.

Fuel cell must be securely mounted to frame in trunk of car between the rear frame rails.  Fuel cell in a steel can is required if cell is dropped down between frame rails.  A plastic fuel cell may be used only if  complete floor pan is in place.  Fuel cell is required, maximum capacity of 22 gallons.

  

Transmission:

 

Any OEM automatic transmission is allowed.  Unit must be stock and have a full working torque converter, minimum of 10”.  Powerglides must have 10” torque converter.  No direct drives, valved pumps, or bleeder style valve bodies.  All forward, neutral and reverse gears must be in working order for all automatics, except powerglides.  Powerglides are allowed either one or both forward gears, with neutral and reverse in working order.

Standard transmissions must be OEM stock, with all gears in working order and a minimum of 10.5” clutch, pressure plate and full size stock flywheel.  No mini-clutches or direct drives.  Standard transmissions may not use aluminum flywheel of any size.

All standard transmissions must have bell housing made of  ¼” thick steel and must cover 180 degrees over the sides and top of the clutch assembly (also referred to as a blow-proof bell housing).

No 4-speed, 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmissions or overdrive units.  No Bert, Brinn or internal clutch style transmissions allowed.  No ram couplers allowed.  Quick-change transmissions or transmission adapters for gear change are not allowed.

Cars must be self-starting and have working neutral, reverse and ALL forward gears. (ex. 3-speed trans. Must have 3 forward working gears.

Transmission fluid coolers are allowed, but may not be mounted exposed in drivers compartment.

Drive shaft must be steel and must be painted white or silver.  Drive shaft must have a steel drive shaft loop (360 degrees) connected to the frame located within 6” of the front drive shaft u-joint.  Minimum size of drive shaft loop is 2” X ¼” or minimum of 1” round tubing.  No chain loops are allowed as drive shaft loops.

 

Rear End:

 

Rear-end must be stock OEM for year, make and model.  Any gear ratio allowed as long as no altering of housing is required to allow for installation.  8.5 rear-end may replace 7.5  Must use stock OEM, for frame being used, length upper and lower control arms.

Axles must be locked together at all times with mini-spool or welded.  No posi-trac, limited slip, Detroit locker of full spool allowed.

 

Brakes:

 

Racing brake pedal and single racing master cylinder are allowed.  No aluminum brake components on any car.  Cars must have a minimum of (3) functioning brakes.  If (4) brakes are installed, a cut-off valve may be used on one of the brakes.  Cut-off valve may not be within reach of driver compartment.  Adjustable proportioning valves are not allowed.  If using (3) brakes, the 4th brake components need not be present other than the rotor, which you can remove outer portion.  Rear disc brakes are allowed with steel components only and with only a single piston caliper.

 

Steering:

 

Quick-steer boxes of any type or style are allowed.  Complete OEM stock steering system for year, make and model, from the steering box to the spindles, including steering gear box must be used.  After-market steering shaft and quick release steering wheel is allowed.  Steering wheel spacer allowed to a maximum of 3” thick.

 

Suspension:

 

No modifying of the suspension is allowed.  OEM suspension parts only.  IMCA TUBULAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WILL BE PERMITTED (steel only and must be IMCA stamped, non-adjustable).  No cutting, welding or bending of frame to accommodate suspension changes.  Suspension parts must remain absolutely stock for that year, make and model of car.  This includes spindles, rotors, upper control arms, lower control arms, ball joints, tie-rods, tie-rod sleeves, center-link, pitman arm, idler arm, steering box and trailing arms.  No adjustable spring spacers.  All upper/lower trailing arm and upper/lower control arm bushings must be present; however, they may be replaced with after-market bushings.  No mono-ball bushings.  Bolt on spindle savers are allowed.  Upper control arm can be strengthened with a maximum of 3/8 inch cold roll or rebar along outer lip with the groove.

Racing springs may be used.  No adjustable spring spacers allowed.  Leaf springs may be after-market, but no adjustable lowering blocks.  Any steel non-jack bolt type leaf spring shackles are allowed, including multi-hole.

Shocks must be steel OEM replacement shocks.  Shocks must be mounted using the OEM stock mounts in the factory installed location.  No heims on shocks allowed.  No shock adapters.

 

Chassis:

  

Frame must remain unaltered in wheelbase and width as defined by OEM original specifications.  1978-1987 metric chassis may be altered for clearance of right front tire only, with maximum alteration no to exceed ½”.  Uni-body sub-frames may be tied together.

 

Roll Cage:

  

Roll bars must be constructed of 1.5” X 0.95” steel tubing minimum.

Main roll bar and halo must be a minimum of 1” higher than the drivers helmet.

Minimum of (3) door bars on the driver side and a minimum of (2) on the passenger side.  Front loop is allowed to protect radiator and front frame arms.  Front core support may be removed and can not be extended past hood.  Maximum size is 1.5” O.D., 0.95” tubing.  All roll cage welds must be complete and pass safety inspection by tech officials.

Floor pan may be cut for cage and sub-frame connectors, but must be replaced by a minimum of 20 gauge steel.  X-bracing under the driver (frame to frame) is allowed.

 

Nerf Bars:

 

A single nerf bar is allowed on each side of car.  Maximum size is 1.5” X 0.95”.  May be attached to main cage only at the front and rear section of the nerf bar.  This means only (2) attachment points are allowed.  No open tubing allowed.  Tubing must be capped or rounded with no sharp edges.  No nerf bars are allowed on the rear outside quarter panel area.  Nerf bars may NOT extend outside of tires.

 

Windshield Bars:

 

A minimum of (3) vertical windshield bars are required.  Must be a minimum of 3/8” diameter steel and mounted in front of the driver.

 

Tires:

 

60 series D.O.T. radial tires only.  Must be able to have road hazard.  May use Hoosier stamped G60 or American Racer KK 704 as an option. Grooved and siped tires are allowed.  No softening of tires. 

 

Wheels:

 

Any 8” width steel wheel.  Any offset from 2” through 5” is allowed.  After-market 5/8” lug studs are recommended.  1” diameter lug nuts are required.  Wheel spacers are not allowed with stock studs.  Wheel adaptors are not allowed.  No screws allowed.  A protective outer ring is allowed to be welded to the outer lip of the wheel with a maximum size 1/2” O.D., round or square is allowed.  A flat bar of 1.25” may also be used.  Bead lock placed on right rear only.

 

Interior:

 

Any oil or transmission fluid coolers in the drivers compartment must be configured to shield driver in case of leaks.  The cooler lines must be encased in tubing, rubber or steel may be used.

 

Body:

 

Car bodies must be strictly OEM stock and must remain in stock location.  Body must be stock for make of frame.  No cutting on body.  Complete bumper-to-bumper steel body must be retained.  Doors must be welded or bolted shut.  Doors may be gutted for cage installation.  All glass, plastic, fiberglass and trim must be removed from race car.  Upholstery and plastic portion of the dash must be completely removed.  A-posts may be trimmed and cleaned up to allow for engine set back, but must be reinforced.  Window post may not be removed.

 

Fenders:

 

Fenders may be cut for tire clearance only and fender must be within 7” of the tire.  Front inside fender wells must be removed.

 

Firewall:

 

A full and complete front and rear firewall must be retained.  All holes must be sealed with a minimum of 20 guage steel.

 

Floor:

 

Floorboards must remain in the car.  All rusted portions of the floorboard must be replaced with minimum 20 guage steel.  Floor pan must remain stock from driver/passenger seat forward; therefore, you may remove floor pan behind the driver/passenger.  However, a rear firewall will be mandatory behind the driver/passenger area to ensure the safety of driver.

 

Bumpers:

 

Stock OEM bumpers are required.  Option:  After-market plastic bumpers may replace stock OEM bumper.  A maximum of 2” X 3” rectangular tubing or 1 ¾” round tubing should be used to support plastic bumper.  Bumper loops are required to protect radiator, fuel tank and to be used by wrecker for tow hooks.  Maximum 1.5” X 0.95” steel tubing, maximum 8” tall and not wider than the frame and mounted to the frame or bumper only.

 

Hood:

 

Steel hood/trunk required, No aluminum.  Hood may be hulled and must remain in place at all times.  Hood must be pinned.  No holes allowed in hood: therefore, no working hood scoops.  Any holes in hood must be covered by steel.  Quick release hood pins and rear deck pins are required.  Hood must make a complete seal dashboard and/or firewall.  The engine compartment must not be visible from drivers seat.

 

Spoiler:

 

Not to exceed 6” and must be attached to rear of trunk lid only.  May not extend past the width of the car and may not have side-boards.  Spoiler supports may not be taller than spoiler and may not be longer than 12”.  Spoiler may be made of aluminum, steel, or lexan.

 

Ignition Switch:

 

All cars must have ignition switch clearly labled.  The car must be equipped with a kill switch to be located within reach when standing outside the car and easily accessible to emergency personnel. 

 

Battery:

 

Only (1)- 12-volt battery allowed.  Battery and battery box must be securely mounted to car and safely sealed.  Battery must be completely encased in an enclosed battery box. 

 

Driver Location:

 

Driver must be located in the original OEM seat location on the left side of the vehicle only.  No back seat mounting of drivers seat.

 

Seat:

 

Racing seats with rib supports are required.  No fiberglass or bucket seats.  Seats must be securely mounted to chassis (not floor pan) with a minimum of (4) 3/8” bolts, of which (2) must be mounted in the middle of the seat at the drivers back.

 

Safety Harness:

 

Racing type 5-point seatbelts are mandatory.  All 5 belts must be fastened while driver is in car and on racing surface.  Must be securely mounted with ½” bolts and tabs welded to the cage or frame.  Must be less than 5 years old.  If the SFI tag is not present or is not legible, the belts will be deemed illegal.

 

Window Net:

 

A window net with quick release is required.  It may be mesh of ribbon type.  No sprint car nets.

 

Scoring:

 

Numbers must be 24” high and 4” wide on both sides of the car, and 28” tall on the roof and positioned so it can be read from the passenger side.  Cars must be painted and numbered neatly and to be seen easily by the score keepers. The number on the roof is the most important.  Reflective vinyl is NOT recommended for roof application due to the poor read ability.  All numbers should be of different color than background. 

 

Helmet:

 

Helmets must be full face Snell 90 or newer and must have Snell sticker clearly visible inside the helmet.  Snell ratings of M90, M95, M00, SA90, SA95, and SA00 are legal.  If the Snell rating tag is not visible or legible, then the helmet is not approved for racing.

 

Protective Clothing:

 

All drivers are required to wear driving suits that are made of fire retardant material that effectively covers the drivers body, (multi-layer recommended).  Neck brace is MANDATORY.  Driving gloves and shoes are strongly recommended.

 

Protest:

 

Protest must be made before “A” feature in writing.  DRIVER ONLY!!!

Mid-sized GM 1978-1987 metric full frames only with 108” wheel base as per OEM specifications of stock.  All frame bolt holes must remain in stock location.  Wheelbase will be checked with a minimum of 107” and maximum of 109”.

Carburetor:

 

602 Crate engine ONLY can utilize a 650 cfm Holley carburetor P/N 80541-1

You may only run (1) carburetor on intake.

Chevrolet: Quadrajet, Chevy two barrel, Holley #4412, or #0-80583-1 two barrels.

Ford: Motorcraft two or four barrel, Holley #4412, or #0-80583-1 two barrels.

Mopar: Carter or AFB two or four barrel, Holley #4412, or #0-80583-1 two barrels.

Carburetor spacer/adapter is allowed, but must not exceed 1-1/4 thickness including gaskets.

Carburetor must be stock and unaltered with only one exception; circle track floats may be used.  Holley must have choke horn attached. 

No Edelbrocks or similar hi-performance carburetors allowed.

 

Engine:

 

Only 283, 302, 305, 307, 327 and 350 blocks can be used for Chevrolet.  No big blocks.  OEM only.

Only 260, 289, 302, and 351 blocks can be used for Ford.  No big blocks.  OEM only.

Only 273, 318, 340, and 360 blocks can be used for Mopar.  No big blocks.  OEM only.  No Hemis.

All casting numbers must remain on blocks.  No side bolt main blocks allowed.

No Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Buick, Rambler, Studebaker, etc., motors.  We realize some of these cars came with Chevrolet motors, but casting numbers will bear this out and those Chevy motors will be legal.

No 400 small block or big block crankshafts allowed.  No in-lines.  V-8’s only.

Again: Only Ford, Chevy, and Mopar engines are allowed.

Mopar=Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge. 370 cubic inch maximum.

Ford=Pontiac, Buick, Oldsmobile as long as they are Chevrolet engines. 368 cubic inch maximum.

No tolerance on cubic inch.

Compression may not be over 180 lbs. per cylinder on any cylinder.  Tracks discretion on cylinders checked.  No tolerance.

Pistons may be forged, must be stock appearing and 10 ½- 1 flat-top, 4-valve relief must have full OEM size skirt and be press fit.  Two-valve relief piston will also be permitted since compression rule is in effect. NO LIGHT WEIGHT OR FULL FLOATING PISTON.

Decking block okay.

OEM blocks okay.  No dart or after market blocks.  No aluminum.  Cylinder sleeves okay.  Polishing lifter galley okay.

Stock OEM rods, or (stock appearing- no light weight and must be of “I-Beam” type).  No aluminum.  Chevy = 5.7” length maximum rods.  No floating pistons.

OEM cranks only, steel or cast.  Will allow stock appearing cast crank-shafts.  Crank shaft cannot be lightened, no aerowing, bullnose, knife edge, undercut or drilling of second or third rod throws allowed. Must be stock stroke for engine used. 

After-market rod, main and head bolts or studs allowed.  Push rods may be any length.

Stock or circle track pans allowed.  No dry sumps.  No gas ported pistons.  No accu. Sumps.

Fluid dampener harmonic balancers are allowed.  No roller rod, main, or cam bearings.

Cast iron water pumps only, except Ford and Mopar may be aluminum.  OEM type only.  Mechanically belt driven only!

Stock OEM cast iron intake is required.  No marine or Bowties.  No tall intakes.

May use one of the following after-market aluminum intakes: Weiand GM #7547-1; Ford #7515, #8023 or #7516; Chrysler #7545; Edelbrock GM 2701. 

Ford may use aluminum, but no hi-rise or air under intake.

Mopar intake is same as Chevrolet.

No Brezenski, porting, polishing, acid dipping, or anything similar allowed.  No hi-rise.

After market starters okay.  Must mount in front of bellhousing.

Power steering pump and reservoir must be a one-piece unit.  Must mount in front of engine.

Steel side engine mounts may be of the 45 degree style or stock style.

Engine mid-plate is allowed and may be aluminum.

Any brand of air cleaner is allowed.  No forced or RAM air allowed.

3.48 stroke maximum for Chevy.  Balancing okay.

Engine displacement can be checked by pump even on protest.

Oil filters must attach at factory specs.  No Oberg, etc. U. Polydyne coating or similar allowed.

Must have 1” sight plug in oil pan between the second and third pan bolt on the drivers side.

May use GM crate motor #88958602.

GM part number 88958602 only.

Sealed engine and GM factory seal bolts must remain intact and not show any evidence of tampering.

Any seal that is broken or shows evidence of tampering will disallow the engine.

The penalty for tampering, removing or modifying any of the parts of the engine may include suspension for up to one year, and/or loss of accumulated points and/or loss of purse and point fund monies.

Vacuum pumps NOT allowed.

  

Cams:

 

Hydraulic lift cams only.  No maximum lift. Engine must pull 12” of vacuum at 1200 rpms.  Timing or carburetor may not be altered at time of tech, if vacuum used. Must have vacuum fitting in the intake (carburetor fitting not acceptable).  Tech by vacuum will be final.  No hydraulic roller cam or lifters.  No bushings in the lifter bore.  Up to four bushings will be allowed for repair.  Hydraulic lifters only.  No solid lift cams or solid lifters allowed.  Anti-pump up lifters okay.  No gear drives.  No reverse rotation cams or motors.  OEM rotation only.  No vacuum cams of any type allowed.

 

Heads:

 

No porting, acid dipping, or polishing allowed.  Screw-in studs and guide plates are legal.

Stock diameter springs only for heads used.  Stock type rocker arms.  Any ratio.  Ford rocker arms on Chevrolet okay.

Flat milling okay.  No angle milling.

Full roller rocker arms or roller tips are not allowed.  No aluminum.

No aluminum or titanium components allowed.  No carbon fiber parts anywhere.

Poly-locks are allowed.  Heads may be cut 360 degrees under valves in bowl area only.

No stud girdles.  1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 angle jobs are legal.

No jesel or other assemblies allowed.  No O-ringing block or heads.

Any breather/valve cover configuration/composition allowed.

Due to Fords and mopars having no cc rule, neither will Chevys.

May use Engine Quest (EQ) stock replacement cylinder head, part number CH350I, head must remain as produced, seat angles and valve sizes cannot be changed; 3 angle valve job only (absolutely no casting removal in valve pocket of EQ head for any reason) 
 

Cheverolet: Heads-GM

 

Only these casting numbers can be used:  997, 445, 882, 624, 441, 487, 993, 185.  These are the last three digits and they are the only ones legal.

No valves larger than 1.94” intake or 1.5” exhaust.  May remove smog clips inside exhaust ports.  No X-heads.

 

Ford:  Heads

 

Any cast iron head.  OEM Ford heads only.  Headers listed for Ford are the only headers that can be used.  If the headers don’t fit the head you are using, head is illegal.

No boss or after-market heads of any kind.

No valves larger than 2.04 intake or 1.70 exhaust.

  

Mopar:  Heads-Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler

 

Any cast iron head.  OEM Mopar only.  Headers listed for Mopar are the only headers that can be used.  If the header doesn’t fit head you are using, head is illegal.

No after-market heads of any kind.

No valves larger than 2.04 intake and 1.70 exhaust.

Mopar can use the rocker arm bars.  OEM only.  No roller tips.

 

Engine Location:

 

Back of entire flange must be mounted at a minimum of 70” forward of the centerline of the rear axle.  This will be measured on the passenger side of the car.

Minimum engine height is 11” from the ground to the center of the crankshaft.  This will be measured on the front of the crankshaft/pulley.

 

Ignition:

 

All cars must have ignition switch clearly labled.

Ignition switch must be located within reach when standing outside the car(easily accessible to emergency personnel).

Stock or stock style ignition only.  Ford may use Motorcraft, including box.  Mopar may use Mopar, including box.  HEI legal on Ford or Mopar.

HEI must remain in one unit, no external coils allowed, unless you are using dual or single point distributor.

MSD or any module may be used as long as it fits inside the distributor with no alteration.  Vacuum advance may be removed and the pick-up coil locked.

MSD, any brand, or GM electronic boxes are not allowed.  No magnetos.

 

Battery:

 

Only (1) 12-volt battery is allowed and must be securely mounted.  Subject to tech inspection.  Battery may be charged by an alternator.

 

Exhaust System:

 

Headers- any 1 5/8” tube 4 into 1 with 3” collector one piece header.  No 180 degree or step header must bolt directly to the head with no modifications or adapter.

 

Radiator:

 

Only (1) radiator is allowed.  It may be aluminum.  Radiator must be mounted in front of engine.  Maximum size; 27” X 19”. 

Racing radiator cap is allowed.  Electric coolings fans are okay.  May not have water outlets to spray on radiator.  Catch cans required.

 

Fuel:

 

Gasoline only.  No oxygenated or other performance enhancers.  No alcohol or nitrous.  Racing gasoline allowed.

 

Fuel Pump:

 

No electric fuel pumps.  Only stock mount push rod activated Holley and Carter style allowed.  No by-pass fuel systems, pressurized, or return lines allowed.  No regulators of any type.  Lever type fuel pumps only.

 

Fuel Cell:

 

Maximum 22 gallon fuel cell.  Fuel cell with a roll over valve is required.  Must be securely mounted inside trunk area only, must be between frame rails, and must be totally enclosed from the driver compartment.  A minimum of (2) fuel cell straps required to secure fuel cell.  Fuel cell protection bar required.  Must be a minimum of 1 1/2” X 0.95”.  it must protect the fuel cell from the rear.  It must be as low as the fuel cell, and extend from side to side as wide as the fuel cell.  It is recommended that this bar be attached to the frame, not the bumper.  If the fuel cell protection bar is not present, the car will not be allowed to continue running.

 

Drive Train- Transmission:

 

Any OEM automatic transmission is allowed.  Must have a working torque converter, minimum of 10”.  No direct drives, couplers, valved pumps, or bleeder style valve bodies.  Automatics must have at least (1) forward gear, and reverse gear must be in working order.  Ford may use GM or Ford automatic.  Mopar may use GM or Mopar automatic.  Chevrolet must use GM automatic.  Stall converters okay.

Standard transmissions must be stock with all gears in working order, with minimum of 10.5” clutch, pressure plate and steel flywheel.  No mini-clutches.  May not use aluminum flywheel.  Ford clutch is 9” minimum.

All standards must have bell housing made of ¼” thick steel or cast iron and cover 180 degrees over the sides and tip of the clutch assembly.  Slave cylinders or hydraulic throw out bearing okay.

3, 4, or 5 speed manual transmissions only, OEM only.  No Bert or Brinn type transmissions allowed.

No ram couplers.

Quick change transmissions or transmission adapters for gear change are not allowed.

Car must be self-starting and have working neutral, reverse, and forward (with engine running and car in a still position must be able to engage car in gear and move forward, then backwards).

Transmission fluid coolers are allowed.

No aluminum converters.  Flywheels and converters can be checked with magnet.  Converters can be checked by moving car forward and backwards to check stall.

Cars MUST idle in all gears.

 

Drive Shaft:

 

Drive shafts must be steel, and must be painted white or silver.  Must have steel drive shaft loop (360 degree) connected to the frame located within 6” of the front drive shaft  u-joint.  Minimum size is 2” X 1/8”.

 

Rearends:

 

Rear end housing must be stock 7.5” GM 10 bolt.  Bracing optional.  Snouts on end of 7.5” rear end can be modified to accept 9” Ford axle.  Stock mounts on lower trailing arms must remain in stock location on original 7.5” tube housing.  No 3” tube from center section out to mounts on trailing arms.  After-market axles, studs, and mini-spools are allowed.  No posi-trac, limited slip style rear ends.  Rear end axles must be locked together at all times.  C-clip eliminators are allowed.  Cups may be placed on housing for springs only.

Any gear ratio may be used, if no alteration to housing is required.

Bolt pattern on the axle/drums may be changed.  Pinion angle may not be altered.  No full spools, Gold Track, or aluminum spools of any kind.  Stock width unless using Ford axles.  If Ford axles are used, rearend must not be narrower than stock nor more than 3” wider.

C-clip eliminators and disc brakes are allowed and recommended to eliminate axles from sliding out. 

No floater rearends of any type.  No 9” Ford or 8.5” rearends allowed.  7.5” only.

 

Brakes:

 

Single or dual master cylinder after market brake pedal is allowed, or dual pedal with adjuster okay within driver’s reach.  Rear brakes must be drum or disc up to 12” disc brakes.  Steel only.  Hats and steel rotors are legal on rear ends only.  Hats must be steel.  No single phase rotors allowed.

Minimum of (3) working brakes is required.  If using (3) brakes, the fourth brake components need not be present.  Wheel shut-off valve must not be in driver compartment.  Spindle must remain unaltered.

Cooling holes may not be drilled in any brake components.

No aluminum brake components allowed.

 

Steering:

 

Quick release steering wheel is mandatory.

Quick steer is optional.  No chains or sprockets allowed in the steering system except     D & M quick steer.

Steering left of drive train only.  This means drive shaft.

Bump steer cannot be adjusted.  Center link, inner tie rods, outer tie rods, or sleeves cannot be altered (must be OEM and in OEM stock location).

Power steering is allowed.  Steering pump and reservoir must remain one unit.

No rack and pinion steering.  Stock OEM steering gear box must be used.  May not be moved.

Idler arms must remain in stock location.

 

Suspension:

 

IMCA TUBULAR UPPER CONTROL ARMS WILL BE PERMITTED (steel only and must be IMCA stamped, non-adjustable). 

No traction control of any type.

Upper control arm brackets may be moved for caster and camber adjustment.  Can not move lower A-frames.  Must use stock lower control arms and brackets.  Upper mounts may be modified, but must remain stock material.

Upper and lower control arm bushings may be after-market.

Sway bars (may be removed) and brackets must remain stock.  Bushings may be after-market.

Racing springs are allowed.  Steel only.  No coil-overs.  No jack bolts allowed.

Adjustable spring buckets are allowed.  May drop rear spring buckets as long as they are in stock location.

Spindles and rotors must remain stock for 1978-1987 metric frame w/108” wheelbase.  Ball-joints must remain stock appearing (may be welded in).  no grinding or lightening parts.  Bolt on spindle savers are legal.

No welding on spindles.  Reaming spindles for ball joints okay.

No drilling cooling holes in rotor.  5’8” studs are allowed in any bolt pattern.

All four rear trailing arms must retain stock arms for metric frame used.  Must remain stock in length.  Must not compress or lenthen.  Arms may be boxed or strengthened.  After-market bushings may be used.  No spherical or ball bearing or Timken bearings anywhere on the cars suspension.

No suspension parts may be altered or lightened.

No aluminum parts allowed, other than bushings.

Each trailing arm must have bushings installed and in good working order.

Lower A-frame mounts may be notched for clearance.

 

Shocks:

 

Shocks must be steel.  Must use stock type shock ends.  May weld or screw stock ends on shocks.

The stock shock frame mounts must be used in the original stock location.

One shock per wheel.  May use spacers when mounting shocks.

Air shocks not allowed.

 

Chassis Frame:

 

Frame can not be cut, bent, or altered to change suspension brackets, except upper control arm brackets on front end.

Front frame horns can be cut off in front of the steering box and idler arm.

Rear frame rails may be cut off behind upper shock mounts.

Replacement may be made with round, square, or rectangular tubing.

Front frame may be cut for radiator clearance.

Frame may be cut for seat clearance.

You can not cut holes in frame to lighten it.  Rust may be removed, in front of lower rear trailing arms and cleaned up on body mount holes.

Frame can not be widened, narrowed, shortened, or lengthened.

Cross member mounts on frame for transmission may be removed, but cannot be farther forward than welds on frame.

If weights are used for ballast, weights must be painted white and number of car must be on weight.  No mercury ballast or any similar type of ballast may be used.  All weight must be securely fastened.  Loss of weight will be cause for disqualification.

 

Roll Cage:

 

Main roll cage must consist of continuous hoops not less than 1 ½” X 0.95”.  All welds must be complete.  No brazing or soldering.  No part of main cage may extend forward past rear motor plate.  The main roll bar must not attach to the frame rearward of front edge of the rear tire.

Main roll bar and halo must be a minimum of 1” above the drivers helment.

A minimum of (3) drivers door bars, and (2) passenger side door bars is required.

(4) bars, two per side, may extend from the main roll cage to the points on the main frame in front of the upper control arms.

(6) bars may extend from the main cage to the rear, X-bracing is allowed.

Door plates are MANDATORY (minimum 4” X 12”).

Cages must be steel or chrome-moly.

 

Nerf Bars:

 

One single nerf bar between the front and rear wheels on each side of the car is allowed.  Maximum size= 1 ½” X 0.95”.  They are to be attached to the cage at the front and rear sections of the nerf bar.  No center supports are allowed on the nerf bar.  Neft bars may not be outside of tires.  All bumpers and nerf bars must be capped.

 

Windshield Bars:

 

Minimum of (3) windshield bars 5/16” in diameter is required.  Must be mounted in front of driver.

 

Tires:

 

IMCA or “H-stamped” Hoosier 500 – 8.0 / 26.0 -15 and/or 8.0 / 27.0 -15 Only. (The “H” stamp will be the same as the IMCA tire from Hoosier and should be cheaper due to no dues payable to IMCA) A durameter rule is pending. You may run your 2009 AR500 on the front until May 1, 2010 to allow for a burn off period.

 

Wheels:

 

Only steel 15” X 8” RR bead-lock is allowed.

No wheel spacers allowed with stock studs.  Any offset wheel allowed.  5/8” studs are allowed.  Wheel spacers may be aluminum.

One-inch diameter lug nuts are required.  Wheel adapters will be treated as spacers and may be aluminum.  1 ½” maximum on spacers.

 

Interior:

 

Oil and transmission fluid coolers are not allowed in drivers compartment.  Floor in drivers compartment must be complete; therefore, there must be a floor pan under the drivers seat.

 

Upholstery:

 

No upholstery allowed, other than drivers seat cover.  No plastic in drivers compartment.

 

Body:

 

 

Roof rear sail panels are allowed one 90 degree bend along the top edge of the sail panel, but must be less than 1” wide.  No Gremlin style roofs.

No more than 6” of total rake allowed on the body deck.  A maximum of 3” of rake (of the 6” total) is allowed in the door section and a maximum of 3” of rake is allowed in the quarter panel section.  If you keep the door section level, then you are only allowed 3” of rake in the quarter panel section.

Minimum ride height is 5” from ground to side frame rails.

Plastic body panels and plastic filler panels are not allowed.

No convertibles, unless special race.

Cars must have full deck interior from one side of the body to the other.  Decks must be aluminum or sheet metal.

 

Fenders:

 

Quarter panels must be 90 degrees to the ground, with a maximum of a 45 degree bend 4” from the bottom of the doors and quarters and 2” on top.

 

Firewall:

 

Must be metal or aluminum sized holes for throttle, etc.  Firewall must be sealed from engine compartment.

 

Floor:

 

Must be metal or aluminum.  Must cover entire drivers cockpit to front edge of seat.

 

Bumpers:

 

(2) bar front bumper is mandatory.  Maximum size is = 1 ½” X 0.95”.

One single bar rear bumper is required.  Maximum size is = 1 ¾”.  The required fuel cell protection bar (maximum size = 1 ½” X 0.95”) may be attached to the rear bumper.

 

Hood:

 

Must cover completely the top of engine and radiator.

Must extend from the nose piece to the deck.

Hood may be made of metal, aluminum, or fiberglass.

Hood must provide a seal to the top of the engine compartment.

Cannot cover side of engine more than 5”.

Hood scoops okay.

 

Spoiler:

 

Rear spoiler is allowed, with a maximum use of material of 15”, measured along the spoiler, from the deck to the top, not straight up and down.  A maximum of four braces are allowed, one on each side, measuring a maximum of the angled height of the spoiler X 24” long.  Only (1) spoiler is allowed.  Aluminum or lexan okay.  Spoiler may not go beyond back bumper.  NO SPOILER ON ROOF.

 

 

Driver Restraint System Seat:

 

Aluminum racing seats with right side rib protection required.  A seat that provides both left and right sight rib protection is recommended.  Seat must be securely mounted.  The racing seat must be bolted to a reinforced cross member and bracket(s).  This cross member must be welded to the roll cage, not just to the floorboard.  The back of the seat must be supported and bolted to a flange that is connected to the cage.

 

Seat Belts:

 

Racing type 5-point seatbelts are mandatory.  All 5 belts must be fastened while driver is in car and on racing surface.  Must be securely mounted with ½” bolts and tabs welded to the cage or frame.  Must be less than 5 years old.  If the SFI tag is not present or is not legible, the belts will be deemed illegal.

 

Window Nets:

 

Window nets are mandatory.  It may be mesh or web style.  Sprint car cage net is allowed.  A quick release window net system must be used.

 

Helmet/Neck:

 

Must be an approved racing helmet in good condition.  Neck brace is mandatory 360 degree or horseshoe style.

 

Protective Clothing:

 

Driver suit (fire suit) mandatory, may be (1) or (2) piece, must be complete and be of fire resistant material and in good safe condition.  Fire resistant driving gloves and shoes are recommended.

 

Definitions:  O.E.M. unaltered unlightened, Ford does not make OEM parts for GM and so on.

Stock:  OEM part. If it needs an adapter it’s not stock.
